Dear Adelphi Faculty Member:
Welcome to the Center for Career Development website! We hope you will review both our Career Calendar and Services and Resources to see what we offer that could be helpful to your students. We depend a great deal on faculty to remind students of our services and events and we welcome any opportunity to visit your classrooms to meet students face-to-face.
Please refer students to the Center for Career Development in Post Hall whenever you think we may be of service. As you probably know, we help students find employment both on- and off-campus while in school, and we arrange interviews on campus for them in their graduation year.
We can help them assess their own interests and values to guide their selections of majors and careers; we also counsel them on all career-related matters. When the topic of résumé writing comes up, please feel free to request our Résumé and Cover Letter Guide (part of our Job Search Series) which we publish specially for Adelphi students.
Our credential service may be of particular interest to you, since you write most of our students' letters of recommendation.
We would also like to inform you of a special service for Adelphi faculty. You could call it "Career Classes on Call" and it would mean that you might never have to cancel a class when conflicting circumstances arise. Just call us and, if a staff member is available, we will cover a class with a career topic such as:
· Choosing a major or career
· Building a résumé: a four-year plan
· Writing a résumé
· Preparing for a job interview
· How to find the right internship
· Or any other career-related topic you prefer
You can click here (PDF 25KB) to download the Faculty Guide to Ethical and Legal Standards in Student Hiring.
We hope you will be able to attend some of our special events this year. You are always welcome at our April Job Fair to chat with employers. Each fall, we plan to bring a brand-new event designed to provide information to our students in small sessions. In November 2006, we sponsored 'Focus on Your Future' on a wide variety of career-related topics including: choosing a major, specific careers and graduate school. The October 2007 'Working for Social Justice' event enabled students to find out about jobs and internships in peace, justice, social issues and the environment. In October 2008, our new, politically-themed fall event called 'Your Vote, Your Future' will provide students with information about careers in government and public service.
If you have any questions regarding Campus Employment for students, visit the FAQ in Administration and Staff Services.
We look forward to hearing from you and we hope you will visit the Center for Career Development in Post Hall very soon.
Sincerely,
Thomas J. Ward, Jr., Director
Elaine Boylan, Associate Director
Allison Clough, Assistant Director
Jonathan Ivanoff, Internship Coordinator/Assistant Director
Florence Catanese, Administrative Assistant
