Center for Career Development

Student Services On-Campus Employment

Overview
Qualified Adelphi University students can obtain year-long, seasonal and short-term on-campus job opportunities through the Center for Career Development as well as through various academic departments.

The three basic forms of on-campus employment are as follows; click on any of the three to be taken to further information and instructions on applying:
  • On-Campus jobs with AU academic or administrative offices (semester or year-long)
  • S.W.A.T.: (Student Worker Action Teams) short-term (1 to 10-12 hours) ad-hoc jobs
  • America Reads/America Counts: student tutoring jobs working in local public and charter elementary and middle schools.  Students choosing to pursue this option must have a Federal Work-Study award as part of their financial aid, or otherwise be prepared to volunteer their time.

On-Campus Jobs
The following instructions are designed to guide the student through the process of applying for an on-campus job:

Step 1:
Fill out a Student Employment Application
Students must fill out an online application form by clicking here or by downloading from PantherZone by accessing the form in the Adelphi University folder located in the Resource Library.

If done online: The Center for Career Development will be automatically notified when an application has been filled out and completed and will then proceed to Step 2, below.

If downloaded and filled out: The application must first be returned to the Career Center for final processing before a copy can be given to the hiring department for each and any position. The department must explain their hiring process to you and notify all students who apply as to any hiring decisions made.

Step 2: Determine Financial Aid/Federal Work-Study Eligibility
U.S. Students (U.S. Citizens):
The Center for Career Development will indicate on each student application the amount of the Federal Work-study award or an exemption to work under Campus Employment.

For more information about Federal Work-Study financial aid awards, click here

International Students:
International students will be granted an exemption for the year as they are not eligible for Federal Work-study. Other students must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to determine if a permanent exemption can be made. Temporary exemptions will be granted to allow time for the application process.

Step 3: Complete Student Payroll Enrollment
You must return all completed and signed applications and forms to Human Resources (Levermore Hall, 2nd Floor). If this is the first time you are working for Adelphi University, you must bring documentation for work authorization to HR for processing. Any student who has previously been hired by the University ("rehire") will already have work authorization on file. Please review the list of acceptable documents required to complete the hiring process.

*Please note: The student must not start employment and cannot be paid until all documentation is completed. The University is subject to fines and penalties if these forms are not completed prior to date of hire.

It is highly advised that you sign-up for direct deposit so that paychecks can be sent directly to your preferred bank checking account, thus avoiding delays and trips to the Career Center to pick up your paycheck.

Step 4: Search for On-campus Student Jobs
All on-campus student jobs are now listed in PantherZone.

If you already have a PantherZone student account:
  • Log in to PantherZone and click on Job Search.
  • To see a listing of open on-campus student jobs, go to the Position Type field on the search screen and scroll down to On-Campus; click that selection.
  • Click Search and a list will pop up displaying available on-campus student jobs.
If you do not have a PantherZone account:
Please see our PantherZone "How To" for instructions on Updating Your Profile, Uploading Documents, and Viewing Your Activity.

Step 5:

Get a Paycheck!
As soon as you start work, obtain a payroll schedule from Office of Human Resources so that you will know when online timesheets need to be completed and when payroll is processed and checks issued. Forms are available on the HR website. Students' paychecks will be available from the department which first hired the student this semester.
