Women's Basketball Beats University of Puerto Rico!!

After losing to Merrimack College, the Lady Panthers did not want to disappoint their fans again. And they didn't. On November 22nd the Adelphi University Women's Basketball team had a 84-73 victory over the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras in a Division II non-conference game.

Junior center, Kelly Arthurs had 24 points and a game high of 12 rebounds for the Panthers while freshmen forward, Jamie Douglas totaled 16 points and sophomore guard Eliana Douglas had 12.

The Panthers erased a seven point, second half deficit with a 35-5 run to build a 75-59 lead. Sophomore guard, Alexis Seeley had 11 of her 17 points in a decisive second half run. Seeley made five jump shots during the first part of the run including a three point field goal and a fall away jumper in the lane the gave the Panthers the lead for good. Douglas had 13 points during the run and made two layups and one jump shot and converted seven free throws. Arthurs had 16 second half points.

In its New York Collegiate Athletic Conference opener against Mercy College the Panthers defeated the Flyers 96-76. The Panthers recorded 27 assists, including a game and a career high nine for Junior point guard Kerry Kennedy. Kennedy has a team high seven rebounds. Arthurs had a game high 20 points and Seeley, Armijos and Douglas joined her in double figure scoring. Seeley, the 2000-01 NYCAC Player of the Year, went 7-for-14 from the floor, including 2-for-3 from the three point range and 2-for-2 from the foul line, for 18 points. Armijos was 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-3 from the three points attempts for a career high of 17 points. Arthurs went 8-for-11 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She totaled four rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and three steals as well. It was the second straight game in which Arthurs has led Adelphi in scoring. Adelphi led the entire game and its biggest lead was 66-43 from a Douglas jumper in the second half.

The Women's Basketball team is a strong willed team and Panther fans everywhere should come out in support during all home games.
