Although, there was a month AWAY from school to cool off, the Adelphi University Women's Basketball team was just getting warmed up. The Lady Panthers were busy gearing up for an intense schedule of training and competition. In their most recent game (as of this printing) the Philadelphia University women's basketball team came from behind to defeat the AU women's basketball team 68-64 on Jan. 22nd.
With the loss Adelphi is now tied for second place in the NYCAC conference with Post and Dowling. Jamie Douglas the NYCAC Rookie of the Week for Jan. 15-21 recorded her first career double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Alexis Seeley totaled 14 point, eight rebounds and six assists. The St. Thomas Aquinas College team defeated Adelphi University 49-41 on the 24th. Kelly Arthurs tied a season high with 15 rebounds, Seeley had a team high 12 points and eight rebounds while Veronica Mullen totaled 11 points. Douglas had a career high 22 points as the AU Panthers defeated Dowling College 76-67 on the 27th. Adelphi and Dowling are now tied for second in the conference two gameS behind first place Philadelphia University.
Mullen had 15 points, Eliana Armijos 13 and Kerry Kennedy 10 points and eight rebounds. Douglas, a three time recipient of the NYCAC Rookie of the Week winner went 9-for-13 from the floor ad 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Earlier this month, Adelphi broke a two game losing streak showing no mercy by defeating the University of Bridgeport 93-65 on Jan. 17th. Seeley had 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Arthurs had 22 points while Mullen tied a season high with 17 points. Armijos totaled 12 points and Arthurs and Douglas tied with nine rebounds. On the 20th, the panthers met the Molloy Lions for a televised home game. Arthurs had 20 points and eight rebounds as the women's basketball team won 74-64 in a NYCAC conference match. Seeley had 16 points and a career high eight assists while Mullen totaled 12 points and three steals.
On Jan. 7th Molloy College defeated Adelphi university 72-67. Seeley had a game and season high 24 points while Douglas had 15 points, Armijos scored in double figures and Arthurs had her eighth double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. On the 15th C.W. Post defeated the Lady Panthers 56-54. Armijos led the Panthers with 19 points, Seeley had 11 an and Arthurs had another 10 points and 10 rebounds.
On Jan. 4th Adelphi lost to Bloomsburg University 87-56. Arthurs had game highs 15 points and 14 rebounds, Mullen totaled 13 points and Freshmen forward Nedda Hartman scored her first college points on a foul line jumper and lay-up in the last two minutes of the game. Adelphi broke the three game losing streak at home on Jan. 6th. Arthurs had game highs 20 points and 14 rebounds by defeating New York Tech 94-57. Armijos, Douglas, Mullen also had double figure scoring. Seeley returned to the lineup 17 days after having surgery to repair the meniscus in her right knee. She totaled eight points, three rebounds and three assists. The Lady Panthers overcame an 11 point deficit to defeat the University of New Haven 66-64. Mullen had 13 points, Arthurs 10 and Douglas was named the NYCAC Rookie of the Week for Jan. 8th had 11 points. Back in action Seeley had a game high 19 points as the AU Panthers remained in first place in NYCAC by defeating Queens College 53-52.
The Assumption Women's basketball team defeated the Panthers with a disappointing 55-52 score ending the five game winning streak the Panthers had on Dec. 29th. Armijos had a game high 20 points while Junior forward Anne Alessamdrini recorded her first career double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The following day Stonehill College defeated Adelphi 76-59. Junior guard Kerry Kennedy and Mullen led the team with 14 points each while Armijos was named to the Stonehill College Coca Cola Christmas Classic All Tournament Team as she scored in double figures for the eighth straight game. Armijos had 11 points while Arthurs had 10 points and a game high 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Alexis Seeley had a game high 18 points followed by Junior center Kelly Arthurs second straight double double with 15 points and 15 rebounds and Junior forward Veronica Mullen had 12 points, five rebounds and two steals which led to the victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College in a 65-50 game in the NYCAC Conference on Dec. 9th.
On Dec. 13th Sophomore guard Eliana Armijos had a career high 24 points as the AU team defeated Dowling College 59-44. This brought the Panthers sole possession of first place in the NYCAC conference. Arthurs had her third straight double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Freshmen forward Jamie Douglas had seven points and a career high 13 rebounds.
The Lady Panthers are giving it their all and would love it even more if Panther fans came for support at home games. The next home game is the 7th of February against Queens College at 5:30 in Woodruff Hall.
