In 1949, Paul Robeson, an African-American athlete, singer, actor and civil rights advocate, spoke at the Pushkin Convention in Moscow, U.S.S.R. After his speech, a photo was taken of him and now a print of that photo hangs in Olmsted Theater.
Donated by Paul Robeson Jr. the photo was installed in the lobby February 26 under the direction of Marsha Darling, director of African and ethnic studies at Adelphi. Acqusition of the photograph was negotiated by Gale Insler, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Dr. Dmitry Urnov of General Education.
