Lady Panthers Grab #2 Spot in NYCAC Playoffs

The AU Women's Basketball Team was back in action as they defeated C.W. Post 81-69, in a New York Collegiate Athletic Conference in a televised home game at Woodruff Hall on February 14th. Sophomore guard Alexis Seeley had a game high 20 points. Junior center Kelly Arthurs totaled 15 points and seven rebounds while Freshmen forward Jamie Douglas had 13 points followed by Junior guard Kerry Kennedy totaling 12 and sophomore guard Eliana Armijos with 10.

On the 17th, the Lady Panthers defeated the University of Bridgeport 91-53 in a NYCAC home game. Seeley had a triple double with 18 points and game high 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Seeley was the NYCAC Player of the Week two weeks straight for February 5-11 and the 12-18. She was also the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week for February 5-11 and the 12-18 as well. Senior guard Shannon Farley had a career high 13 points. She went 5-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from behind the three-point arc, also career highs. Armijos and Douglas each had 10 points.

The Lady Panthers defeated New York Tech 85-70 in a NYCAC game on the 19th. With the victory, the Panthers secured one of the four NYCAC tournament quarterfinal home games. Arthurs had a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Seeley had 17 points, 10 assists and six rebounds while Junior forward Veronica Mullen and Douglas each had 14 points. Arthurs, Mullen and Douglas each had seven field goals. Armijos was the fifth Adelphi University player in double figures with 12 points.

The Women?s Basketball Team defeated Southampton College 84-66 in their last regular season home game at Woodruff Hall on the 21st. Adelphi has won its last seven out of eight games including a season high six straight! With the Southampton victory the Panthers secured the No. 2 seed in the NYCAC tournament. Arthurs recorded her 11th double-double of the season with game high 19 points and 11 rebounds. Seeley recorded her third straight double- double with 15 points and 10 assists. Douglas totaled 16 points and eight rebounds and Mullen and Armijos also scored in double figures with 15 and 12 points respectively.
