Students Share Light, Remembrances At Vigil

by Gillian Candalera

On a day of reminiscence and deep thought, students and faculty gathered inside the University Center to light a candle for the past and for the future in honor of peace.
The harsh winds did not discourage the students, who grouped together, signed the memorial banner, and lit each others candles. Some students and faculty brought their own candles in remembrance of the many live lost on Sept. 11.

Student Activities Board adviser, Kevin Goodman, lead the prayer. "We're really overwhelmed by the response we had tonight," he said. "I was also glad to see all of you sharing your lit candles. It shows that we all can contain strength from each other."
After the prayer, everyone bowed their heads and took a moment of silence in commemoration for the lives lost, and for the people overseas. The crowd then exited the University Center to meet at the flag pole for the final event.

"It's important to remember, but it's also important to keep in living," said Scott Pursner, sophomore as he walked over to the final part of the ceremony.

At the flag pole, students huddled together to keep their flames alive, and sang "Amazing Grace" and "America, The Beautiful." The final ceremony of September 11th ended, with hope and faith for a more peaceful future.
