Letter to the Editor

Dear Editors,

I am ashamed of my fellow "Adelphinites." The previous two letters to the editor have read like a bad teen soap opera. When did the Delphian become "As Adelphi Turns?" I do not care why you have your tv or stereo on. No one does. The first column was immature and whiny. The response, however, was the most ridiculous thing I've read since "Mold Madness."

First of all, the original column's complaint that her rude dorm-mates were the cause of the black outs was just silly. The blackouts we experienced at the beginning of the year were part of a process to test emergency systems. We all had to go through it. No one cares that it ruined your day.

Second, this entire situation could have been settled through a civil conversation. "Excuse me, could you turn your music down?" "Certainly! I didn't realize it was bothering you." Does that sound so terrible? But as much as the two writers were wrong for sending those absurd letters, the Delphian was wrong for printing them. I'm sure my fellow "Adelphiners" would rather have four pages of interesting articles than all this filler being thrown in.

While we're on the subject of silly things being printed in the Delphian, who was it that criticized President Bush for not attacking all of our political enemies at once?

I'm positive my fellow "Adelphiopians" would agree that it's a good thing to, you know, stay alive. We can handle Iraq. We can handle Afghanistan. We can handle North Korea. We can handle most countries in isolation. We cannot take them all at once. Their combined standing armies would outnumber ours 5 to 1, and our only advantage would be technology that we are too afraid to use and that we pray to god they don't have. The United States is not invincible. Bush may not be a tactical genius, but he's not a complete idiot.

So what is the solution to this rampant barrage of immaturity and falsehood that has invaded our newspaper? Common sense. If someone is bothering you, talk to them. We're all adults here. If you have an opinion about the war, great, but you'd better have some research to back it up. And to you, the Delphian, would it be so hard to replace these letters with real articles? A review of "The Hostage" would have been nice.

Before you start writing those angry return letters, please keep in mind the message of this letter. I don't want to see a response to this in the next Delphian. I'm no hypocrite, so if you have a problem with my letter, or me, write to the Delphian and they'll forward the message. I'm sure we can settle things like the mature college students we are all supposed to be.
