Lackmann Employee Fired

Another Lackmann dilemma has hit our Garden City campus.

This time it involves the firing of one of its employees and the uprising of the concerned student body.

After word got out that Shuron Jackson was fired from his job at the Grill in the University Center, a group of students collaborated and created a petition to bring him back. Sean, as most people know him, was fired for two different reasons. The story from the petition says that recently "the food service switched over to a different meat for the burgers. To be specific, they started buying lesser quality meat for the burgers to save money." When Sean spoke up about this to Mr. Katona saying that "it was wrong to serve students lower quality burgers," he was fired. As for Mr. Katona, he had a different story. [ more... ]


The Woes of Captain Planet

Adelphi University publicly states it is a green campus, but there are important issues related to recycling that affect the school's reputation as an environmentally sound campus.

Difficulties continue to arise concerning Adelphi's recycling programs. Not everyone recycles. "The biggest problem is having individuals respecting the recycling cans by not putting regular garbage in them," said James Kosloski, the Executive Director of Facilities Management. This makes it more difficult to organize which material goes to the recycling processing plants and which waste materials go to the county and state dumps. Also, not every waste product can be recycled due to either a lack of funds or a lack of facilities to process such materials. [ more... ]
