On October 29, 10 new members were initiated into the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Gamma Sigma Alpha, the National Greek Academic Honor Society at Adelphi University. This prestigious society is open for membership, based on grade point average and activity in a Greek Fraternity or Sorority on campus. Since Gamma Sigma Alpha strives to uphold the ideals of scholarship achievement, only juniors and seniors with aculmulative grade point averages of 3.5 or higher are eligible.
The organization was founded on November 9, 1989 at the University of Southern California to promote intellectual interaction between Greek students and the academic community. This semesters inductees include Dulce Andrade, Pamela Demas, Samyra El-ftesi, Michelle Gerbe, Kanchi Kapadia, Jessica Presta, and Gina Sanzone from Alpha Epsilon Phi; Kristin Ippolito, Kristin Lupardo, and Rachel Schaeffer from Sigma Delta Tau. Next semester, Gamma Sigma Alpha looks forwards to hosting many events on campus. A few of innumerable ideas they are looking into include recognizing outstanding faculty and organizing a school-wide book drive.
