Two thousand and three has proved to be an eventful year for the Delphian. Past Editors-in-Chief Mark Ginocchio and Tom Westerman passed on the reins of our student newspaper to a new team of young, eager underclassmen, while our Editorial Board and Adelphi University all said good-bye to four-year newspaper adviser Barbara Fischkin.
Our staff has multiplied nearly three times over and has expanded sections and introduced a comic and opinions section. We have diversified our story selection and have tried to maintain the highest writing standard possible.
As for the Delphian's "Christmas Future," we can only hope it will continue on the successful track that has brought us this far. The editorial board and our energized staff all look forward to another eventful, dynamic year in 2004, as we continue to provide the most accurate information pertaining to the Adelphi Community.
But like every budding publication on a newspaper-high, there is always room for improvement. Like many of your are doing, we've made our own New Year's Resolution List. It's time for renewal as well as a time to open doors to places the Delphian has never explored before. We want to act as the liaison between the Adelphi Community and its "constituents," while maintaining the spirit and zest introduced this past semester.
Resolution #1: More Communication with the Faculty.
It has been brought to our attention on several occasions that the Delphian used to accept faculty-written articles, and kept a regular faculty column. We don't know the exact circumstances which led to the destruction of this connection, but the Delphian of today thinks that communication between the faculty and the paper should be open.
Resolution #2: More In-Depth Coverage with Follow-ups.
We have been trying out hardest to keep up-to-date with the events and news circulating through our campus, but some news has either fallen through the cracks or has been unintentionally misconstrued during the editing process. This will be a thing of the past.
The Delphian has been brainstorming and organizing a strategy for bringing the most thorough information to the community, and will continue these efforts toward perfection next semester.
Resolution #3: Provide More Opportunities for Everyone to Contribute.
Though the Adelphi faculty was first on our list, the Delphian wants to open our arms even further and welcome all talents to our publication.
We have never refused an idea or contribution, and will continue to solicit ideas to make the paper a better representation of the Adelphi Community. To allow this, the Delphian staff will be extending our hours of operation, and adding an extra meeting time for interested students. Starting Spring 2004, the Delphian will meet Mondays at 1:00pm AND Thursdays at 6:00pm, along with accepting articles via e-mail at any time.
The Editorial Board and staff would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season, and are looking forward to an exciting and productive New Year.
