Letter to the Editor
Bushisms III

Dear Editor,

In my last two letters to the editor, I was accused of making close-minded statements regarding George Bush. Well, I do listen to the views of both sides before I come up with my own conclusion and beliefs. This has still not dissuaded me about what is going on with our president.

Many of you wonder the reasons that I don't like Bush. Well, I will give you a brief summary. (#1) Cutting down forests in the Midwest and West of the United States, claiming that it would prevent forest fires. Of course it will prevent forest fires because there won't be a forest to cause a fire. He wants to cut down forests that belong in Indian reservations. Cut down trees that have been around for thousands of years. The reason for this clearing forest plan is for the big corporate lumber businesses. (#2) Drilling oil in the wild Alaska landscape where endangered species live. This would destroy the beautiful Alaskan landscape and kill off the species. (#3) Tax breaks for the rich and only for the few upper middle class families. No tax cuts for the middle and poor. Bush is raising 200 million dollars for his re-election. Guess where that is coming from??? (#4) Lying to the American people and to the world about his reasons to go to war with Iraq. His reasons before the war were that Saddam was a threat to the world, that he had WMD, and ties to Al-Qaida. That still has not been proven. Bush did not care one whit about the people there. He only cared about his own interests. We went to Iraq because of oil, plain and simple. Then after the war, Bush changed his reasons and said it was to free the Iraqi people. Ironically, there are other countries in the world that are worse off then Iraq but we don't do anything to help them because we have no use for them. I am still against the war in Iraq 100 percent (#5) Breaking ties with the United Nations. America had to be so stupid and selfish that we don't care about allies anymore. At least in the Clinton administration, he had the United Nations backing his actions, even though, they were big mistakes like Kosovo and a few bombings in Iraq. (#6) The abortion law that Bush passed a while ago that gave less say for the women. That is taking away freedom of choice. This is against the constitution. (#7) Bush against gay marriage. Bush used religion for his reasons for why he said that gay marriage is wrong and he said that it was a sin. This is also against the constitution. United States of America by law is a separation of church and state.

I can go on and on about my dislikes about President Bush. Now you may also wonder if I love America. Well I am an American and proud of it. I take full advantage of my freedom as some day it may be gone. But at the same time I am ashamed of living in a country full of ignorant, hateful, and heartless people. The rich, the ignorant, and the religious fanatics all love President Bush. They make up for more than 50 percent of this country. Just a last word of advice: When you vote this November make sure you know what you are voting for and what is going on in the world.
