Getting Started at AU

Information for International Students International Student Orientation

Orientation for F-1 and J-1 International Students and Scholars is mandatory. It is also an essential part of your Adelphi experience and a requirement from the Office of International Student Services. It will help to make your adjustment to college life easier, your transition to Adelphi a smooth one and provide you with essential information regarding your immigration status necessary to be in compliance with federal regulations. As an International student, whether a resident or commuter, we want you to feel confident, focused and comfortable on your first day of class. A big part of that is achieved at Orientation where you will learn about the campus and get to know other members of your class.

How do I get started?
In order to register, you will need to have completed all required documentation needed to receive your form I-20 . After all documents are received, then your 9 digit Adelphi number will be provided to you, along with your I-20. You will be able to register for Orientation once you receive this number in your I-20 packet.

How can I register for Orientation?
International students can reserve their place for Orientation using our online form. You'll need your Adelphi student ID number and universal password to register, which you can retrieve here if you haven't done so already.

When will Orientation be held?
When you attend Orientation depends on when you will enter the University.

  • For international students entering Adelphi in Spring 2010, Adelphi conducts a one-day Orientation program on Friday, January 22, 2010. (Check in at 12:45 p.m., Ruth S. Harley University Center.)

Where will Orientation be held?
All orientation events are held on our Garden City campus. When you arrive, check in at the University Center. We will guide you from there. You will find a community dedicated to answering your questions and helping you every step of the way.

What happens during Orientation?
International students will register with the Office of International Student Services, complete necessary paperwork needed as an F-1 or J-1 student, familiarize themselves with the campus, learn about facilities and services offered at Adelphi and have a chance to ask questions, get their ID card, purchase books and finalize the details prior to beginning class. Most International students register for classes before Orientation. You will be contacted by an academic advisor regarding course registration.
