Getting Started at AU

Counseling and Special needs

The transition to college life can cause additional stress as you adjust to a new environment and a different way of study. Students with disabilities may also require additional services. Adelphi offers services to help students cope with their problems or meet their specific learning needs.

---
Student Counseling Center
The Student Counseling Center (SCC) provides free, private, and confidential services to any student who has a mental health concern or just needs to talk. Staffed by licensed clinical social workers trained in social work and clinical psychology, graduate-level social work interns, and doctoral level clinical psychology interns, the SCC is open to all students.

---
Health and Wellness Peer Education and Mentoring Center
The Health Services Center and the SCC also operate the Health and Wellness Peer Education and Mentoring Center, which delivers holistic health promotion programs and support to Adelphi students through peer mentors.

---
Derner Institute for Psychological Services
Resident therapists at the Center for Psychological Services offer brief and long-term psychotherapy for a range of issues including eating disorders, relationship impasses and anxiety. The Center also offers psychological testing and testing for learning disabilities. The strictly confidential services are available in Garden City and Manhattan.

---
Disability Support Services
The Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) is dedicated to ensuring equal access to all of the University's programs and services for students with documented disabilities. Through assistance, advocacy, and reasonable accommodations, it provides an accessible and supportive campus environment. DSS policies and procedures meet the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1972 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
