Student Organizations Student Organizations Pi Delta Phi (French Honor Society)

Pi Delta Phi, the French Honor Society, recognizes excellence in the study of French language, civilization, and literature. It is dedicated to increasing American awareness and admiration for the contributions of France to world culture by encouraging cultural activities that lead to a deeper appreciation of France and its people.

Pi Delta Phi was founded as a departmental honor society at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1906. After 20 years as a local chapter, Pi Delta Phi declared itself the National French Honor Society and chartered the Beta Chapter at the University of Southern California in 1925. The Adelphi University Chapter, Gamma Gamma, was organized in 1959. The official publication of Pi Delta Phi is The Newsletter.

To become members, students must have completed at least 15 credits in French above level III, with one course at the 300 level, and have a GPA of 3.5 in French and a general GPA of 3.0.
