Student Organizations Student Organizations Sigma Iota Rho (International Studies Honor Society)

In the spring of 2007, the National Honor Society for International Studies, Sigma Iota Rho, welcomed Adelphi University as its Gamma Zeta Chapter. The purpose of the Society is to promote and reward scholarship and service among students and practitioners of international studies, international affairs, and global studies and to foster integrity and creative performance in the conduct of world affairs.

One of the benefits of student membership is the opportunity for student publication in The Journal of International Relations, travel and research grants, and access to numerous professional networks.

The requirements to join the society are (1) to have completed at least 21 hours of course work toward the International Studies major, including at least two courses at the 300 or 400 level, and (2) to have attained a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher in all courses, and a grade point average of at least 3.3 in International Studies courses.

Each student who joins the society will be required to contribute a $30.00 fee for member inception. This fee includes the Sigma Iota Rho certificate upon induction, a SIR pin, graduation regalia, and a copy of SIR’s Journal of International Relations.

Students interested in joining the society should contact the faculty advisers listed below. The student officers of the Adelphi chapter shall be elected by the active members of the chapter in the spring semester for the academic year to follow.
