Leadership Development

The Opportunity Program is a highly selective program designed to support economically disadvantaged students while in pursuit of their undergraduate degree. Students in the program receive a grant for additional funding and advisement during their entire undergraduate tenure. In addition, students participate in a variety of educational and social programs that helps them to make major decisions and prepare them for anticipated challenges and transitions. The Opportunity Program works closely with various Adelphi University departments to help students succeed and provide students with information to lead them towards academic accomplishment.

Eligibility:
All candidates are identified by the Office of Student Financial Services, based on the following criteria:
  1. Be admitted as a first-semester/freshman Adelphi University student
  2. Meet New York State Education Department Economic Eligibility Criteria
  3. Demonstrate a need for additional academic/financial support.

After a student is identified by the Office of Student Financial Services, the Center for Student Involvement will select a limited number of candidates, based on their admissions file, for a personal interview. The Center for Student Involvement will accept ten (10) students annually into the program and acceptance decisions will be based heavily upon the personal interview.
