The Mission of the Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) is to ensure equal access to all of the University's programs, services, and facilities for students with documented disabilities. Through assistance, advocacy, and reasonable accommodations, DSS provides an accessible and supportive campus environment. DSS policies and procedures meet the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and are on file at the Ruth S. Harley University Center, Room 310.
DSS is a vital campus resource. It achieves its mission by:
- providing cost-free assistance and services tailored to meet the needs of individuals based on their specific,
appropriately documented disabilities, while preserving Adelphi's academic integrity and maintaining high
standards of academic expectations and performance
- encouraging independence by training students with disabilities to effectively advocate for themselves within
the University community
- serving as a liaison and resource for the University faculty, staff, and administrators in order to foster a
greater awareness and appreciation of issues of concern to people with disabilities.
Upon acceptance to Adelphi, students should register with DSS. They should submit the Petition for Accommodations (PDF 130.7KB) and the Consent for Release of Information (PDF 112.3KB), along with the required information as detailed in the Guidelines of Documentation.
DSS has also prepared guides explaining the rights and responsibilities of students, faculty and administration, and notetakers.
