Health Insurance Information
Health Insurance is mandatory for all residential and international students. Students may elect to enroll in Adelphi's school insurance through AIG, or waive the school insurance in favor of another comparable policy.
Commuter students may voluntarily elect to enroll in school insurance but are not required to do so.
School Insurance Information
All residential and international student who do not choose to waive their school insurance will be automatically placed on a pre-selected policy.
Open enrollment for the fall semester ends on October 15; new students beginning classes in the spring semester must enroll by March 15. You may enroll online via the AIG website*.
- Full year (August 15, 2014-August 15, 2015$1,377): $1,377.
- Spring semester only: $786***
The insurance fee will be billed directly to your tuition statement and is listed as “Medical Insurance Plan.”
*If you do not complete the enrollment form during open enrollment, the company will not have your information in their system until after the enrollment deadline (October 15 in the fall, March 15 in the spring). Therefore, we suggest that all students who are taking the school insurance enroll online prior to the ennrollment deadline. This will enable you to print a temporary ID card as well as have any claims processed from August 15 forward without waiting for the information to be sent to the company.
**Failure to waive the insurance or pay the fee does not relieve you of this responsibility. If you do not apply for and receive the waiver, you will be responsible for the cost of the insurance on your bill. A financial hold will be placed on your account preventing you from registering for future classes, graduation or receiving official transcripts.
***There is no partial fee for students attending the university in September who may graduate in December or leave the university during the year. The policy continues on for the full year regardless.

» Apply for a waiver
When completing the application please be extremely careful when entering your policy number and phone number and double-check this information before submitting. Accurate information is essential to the waiver being granted.
Voluntary Insurance Enrollment
If you are a commuter student who wishes to enroll in the school insurance, you must be a registered student and you must complete the enrollment form on the AIG website by the October 15 deadline (March 15 if beginning classes in the spring.) If you do not enroll within these deadlines, your application will not be accepted by the company unless you meet criteria for a qualifying event.
If you wish proof of insurance immediately, you may print a temporary ID card online by logging in to your account on the AIG website and clicking the menu link for "ID Cards/Claims Info".
Payment for Voluntary Enrollment
When you process the enrollment form, your student account will be charged for the cost of the insurance within one to two weeks. You are responsible for paying the fee in person at the cashier’s office on the Garden City campus or paying online through your student account with a credit card. Payment cannot be accepted at the Health Services office in Garden City.
Failure to pay the fee does not relieve you of this responsibility. If you do not pay your bill in a timely fashion (within 30 days) you may be assessed late fees by the University and a financial hold will be placed on your account preventing you from registering for future classes, graduation or receiving official transcripts.
Student Accident/Injury Policy
Every registered Adelphi student (regardless of home campus) is entitled to a $2,000 accident/injury policy. If at any time a student encounters an accident or injury (whether on campus or off-campus) that requires medical treatment, the Adelphi Accident/Injury policy will act as a co-insurance to your primary insurance. If you do not carry primary insurance you could submit for re-imbursement up to $2,000 for reasonable and customary care.
Seek treatment immediately without delay. If you are on the Garden City campus the Health Services office is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when school is in session and is free for all students.
If you are treated at an outside facility, your primary insurance is your policy or your parent’s policy, etc. Once payment is made by that policy, remainder of bills such as co-pays, deductibles, pharmacy bills, can be submitted through the insurance company for re-imbursement. You have approximately 60 days to submit a claim regarding an accident or injury.
To submit the claim, go to the AIG website, log in (if you are not enrolled you will need to enroll). Once you are logged in you may complete an on-line claim form, print a copy and mail in with the original receipts for re-imbursement. The claim DOES NOT need to be signed by a school official unless you are a collegiate athlete and the injury occurred during practice or a game.
Remember, this is only an accident/injury supplemental policy and is secondary to your primary insurance.
If you are a collegiate athlete and are injured during practice or a game, you must notify your coach and trainer. They must sign off on your claim for submission.
