Before applying for a specific program, you may want to do research about the country, its culture and climate, plus the health requirements for entry. The following list provides a starting point:

- Make an appointment to meet with a Study Abroad Adviser. Visit our office in the University Center, room 109, or call 516.877.3661. The Study Abroad Adviser will review the programs, explain the requirements, and answer your questions. After you have determined the program, the adviser will help you obtain the required documents, i.e., visa, passport, etc.
- Go to the dean's office for your academic department for information on study abroad procedures and readmission to Adelphi following your study abroad. Complete the Study Abroad Interest Form (PDF 6.1KB) More information is also available in the Undergraduate Bulletin.
- Speak with your academic adviser for your major to find out which courses can be transferred and applied to your Adelphi degree.
- After the Study Abroad Interest Form (PDF 6.1KB) is completed with all the necessary signatures, submit all required forms to the Office of International Student Services and Study Abroad.
- To apply for financial aid, you need to complete a Consortium Agreement and return it to the Director of Study Abroad.
To prepare for your trip, keep in mind:
Budget
Make sure you have the resources to cover tuition, housing, and miscellaneous costs that you may incur in travelling.
Passport
Passports are necessary to enter almost every foreign country, except Mexico, Canada, and most Caribbean countries. If you do not have a passport, you can apply at certain post offices. You must have two passport-sized photographs, proof of citizenship, and a valid form of photo identification, such as a driver's license. Allow enough time for a passport to be issued so that you do not have to pay additional fees.
For an application and information about required documents and fees, go to the U.S. Department of State's Passport Services Office.
Visa
A visa is an endorsement or stamp placed in your passport by a foreign government. Certain countries require a visa which allows you to visit the country for a specific purpose and length of time. You should obtain the visa before you leave the United States. You need to apply directly at the country's embassy in Washington, D.C. or at its consulate.
International Student ID
The International Student ID is an identification card that entitles you to certain student discounts on airfares, phone cards, lodging, and much more. You may obtain it from the Office of International Student Services and Study Abroad.
