Achieving Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education

This workshop will explore why achieving diversity and inclusion in higher education and the workplace is essential for success for both institutions and individuals. The participants will learn strategies for achieving this goal as well as participate in a frank, inside view on what Adelphi University has done to become a model of diversity and inclusion. Participants will be asked to share their thoughts on the subject.

This event is part of Adelphi’s Leadership Certificate Program.

Perry Greene, Ph.D. is Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion and leads the Office for Diversity and Inclusion at Adelphi University. He received his master’s degree in Media Ecology at New York University, and he earned a Ph.D. in English Education. Dr. Greene’s career includes many years as a public school teacher at both the elementary and high school levels. For many of the last 30 years, he has taught English and teacher preparation at the college level and is a tenured professor of English education.

Dr. Greene he oversees diversity initiatives, policies, and planning. Recent contributions include contributing to the development of the University’s Diversity Certificate Program and the Mentoring Program. Recent recognition awards include the 2018 Long Island Business News Executive Circle Award and the 2019 Martin Luther King Jr Award of MLK Birthday Celebration Committee of Nassau County.

Dr. Greene’s research interests are in the areas of teacher preparation, diversity, and the education of urban youth.

Leadership Certificate Program LogoAbout the Leadership Certificate Program

The Leadership Certificate Program is an interdepartmental initiative hosted by the Center for Career and Professional Development, the Center for Student Involvement, the Office of Alumni Relations and the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business.

Its goal is to offer Adelphi undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills. Participants are able to attend workshops on a wide variety of topics during the course of the year. 

Requirements for Students

To participate in the Leadership Certificate Program, you must RSVP for a minimum of six events. Each student must complete the workshops within the academic year. Events are added throughout the year.
