Panther Day of Service


The Center for Student Involvement is offering the Adelphi community the chance to participate in our spring Panther Day of Service. The goal of the service event is to give back to the communities that surround Adelphi University.

Interact with students, staff, and faculty while visiting various locations completing projects, doing arts and crafts with the elderly, etc. Faculty, staff and students are able to connect on a different level outside of the classroom and office working on projects together to better the community. Check-in will be in the University Center Lobby an hour before the start time of your service project. Meet at 9:00am for the 10:00am serve and 1:00pm for the 2:00pm serve. Registration is first-come, first served.

Faculty, staff and students are invited to participate!

Please bring one canned good to check-in and/or a quarter that will be donated to Loving Orphans Global Project Rote.

Community service options

African American Museum of Nassau County

The African American Museum also known as the African American Museum of Nassau County, which opened in 1970, is dedicated to showcasing local and national African American artists. After a group comes in for painting, volunteers will put the room back in order.

Garden City Library

On Dr. Suess’s birthday you will be potenially reading to children or helping clean the children’s section of the library. Volunteers will be cleaning or filing among other activities.

Glory House Recovery Incorporated

Glory House Recovery Inc. is a homeless housing facility in Hempstead dedicated to helping those less fortunate among us. Volunteers will beautify the surrounding area for the residents. They are in high need of towels and wash clothes if you are able to please donate either item the house would appreciate it. Volunteers will cleaning and potentially doing outdoor activities.

HorseAbility

10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

The mission of HorseAbility is to improve the lives of individuals with special needs through facilitated interactions with horses at their Old Westbury facility. Volunteers will help manage the stables and clean the surrounding area. Some will help groom the horses as well. Please be prepared to work inside and out so dress warm!

Transportation provided by CSI.

Momma’s House

Volunteers will help children or parents with various activities at Momma’s House.

Christopher Residences

Since 1974, Catholic Charities has operated community residences to help individuals achieve their highest level of functioning and to participate as fully as possible in the surrounding community. Volunteers will be doing arts and crafts with the residents and playing games.

Personal transportation is required.

Msgr. Fagan Residences

10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Jackson Main Elementary School

Volunteers will be reading to kids and helping with homework at Jackson Main Elementary School.

Relay For Life

10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. 

Relay For Life events are unique, life-changing cancer fundraising events that help communities across the globe fight back against cancer. Volunteers will solicite for Relay raffles / monetary donations for Adelphi’s Relay for Life event in the spring.

David Paterson IB PYP Candidate Elementary School

10:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Volunteers will be reading to kids and helping with homework at David Paterson Elementary School.

Garden Care Center

2:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.

Volunteers will play word games, board games and crosswords with the residents of the center.
