Panther Pantry

Panther Pantry Shelf showing different foods available.

Food insecurity can be found anywhere—even on a college campus. As the new academic year begins, Adelphi University has opened the Panther Pantry, a vital step in helping members of our community who are dealing with food insecurity. Unforeseen hardships can leave anyone vulnerable to not being quite sure where their next meal is coming from—if food is coming at all. So President Christine Riordan assembled a group at the University to create the pantry to assist our community members who face food insecurity.

A Virtual Menu and Physical Location

Physical Location

The pantry will be staffed by volunteers and open on Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Wednesdays, 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on the lower level of Residence Hall A. During these times, individuals can meet with volunteers and University chaplains and select the items they need.

Virtual Menu

Customers who do not wish to visit the physical location have the option of going to eCampus and selecting the Panther Pantry icon. There, you can select the items you need from the menu. Once you receive a notice from the Adelphi mailroom that your order is ready for pickup, you can then go to the mailroom in Post Hall (Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to pick up your order. If you do not collect your items in three days, they will be returned to the pantry.

How Can You Help?

In lieu of food items, please donate in the form of cash or checks made payable to Adelphi University, with “Panther Pantry” written on the memo line, and delivered to Carol Lucas, associate dean of student affairs, in the Division of Student Affairs, Nexus Building, Room 308. Employees can also donate by making a charitable gift by payroll deduction.

The pantry relies on volunteers to interact with pantry users, distribute food, take orders and shelve items. If you’re interested in helping out, contact the Division of Student Affairs at 516.877.3660 or

Get the Word Out

You can help by getting the word out, telling your friends and encouraging those you know who need assistance to take advantage. Pantry use is confidential, because our goal is to reach as many people as possible who are in need by respecting and supporting them.
